What is your perception of life? Is it happening to you, for you or through you? Each perception says something about how we experience our lives. For example, is life just something that happens? Is it a bit of a journey that you just have to follow, with good bits and bad bits in it? Do you feel at the mercy of what life throws at you, without any control to direct it? Do you feel overwhelmed and out of control at times? Do you sometimes feel like a victim, and that life is unfair? Or, the opposite, do you feel “just lucky” with your lot? In other words, is it as if life happens TO you? Or is life happening FOR you? Do you feel appreciation for this life you have been given, and try to make the best of it? Do you recognize life’s opportunities? Do you see the chances for learning and growth? Do you think you just have to “put up” with the bad bits, and enjoy the good bits? Or do you maybe feel an entitlement to take what there is in life, because after all, it has been given to you and we only live once! Or is life happening THROUGH you? Do you feel responsible for your own thoughts and actions? Do you believe you create your own reality, by the way you perceive it? Do you use your creativity as a means to express life? Do you feel you have a purpose, do you feel you create your own meaning to your life? Do you feel free to be uniquely you? Do you perceive the difficult moments in life as learning opportunities for you to grow, and that it is your own responsibility what you learn from them? Looking at life from these different perspectives may help you shift your conscious awareness of how you live your daily life. When you are going through a tough time, for example, your first perceptions may be that it feels unfair, it feels like a burden, it feels overwhelming. However, hanging on to these perceptions will keep you in the role of a victim, and it will not empower you to make any changes. After a while you may be able to see your bad times as part of life, and of life’s way of teaching you something. You may believe that life is here for you to teach you lessons. This perception can help bring more acceptance of your situation. When you are able to shift your perception to one where you are seeing yourself and a unique instrument through which life can express itself in all it’s forms, and that indeed your perception and actions can change your experiences, and that you, and only you, are responsible for the way you perceive and react to your life, then you can experience true empowerment, and learn that you are the creator of your own reality, that your life outside of you is a reflection of what goes on inside of you. Life can become a fascinating challenge, a playful game, and a purposeful and valuable experience.
